Seth received a camera for his birthday a year ago, and has been taking lots of videos and pictures since. His pictures are pretty good too! He loves to be "in charge" of taking the pictures and has figured out how to tweak them all to his liking.
This year for Christmas we decided to do the tradition that I had growing up and open all the gifts under the tree for Christmas eve. It was great fun! We acted out the Nativity, read from the scriptures, sang Christmas carols, and then opened them. We did it fairly early, so after they went and played with a few of the items. Seth set his camera up on a book shelf and we didn't think anything of it!
WARNING! the next segment of this story has to do with Santa, if you still believe do not read on.
After the kids played a while it was time to go to bed so "Santa" could come. (our kids have never believed, they know it is us and we like to play around with that fact.)
Derek and I went into our room to gather up the stuff and sort through it. Little did we know that Seth snuck back upstairs and turned the camera on. He placed a paper on the back so we wouldn't see the screen light showing that is was on.
We (Derek and I) proceeded to check to make sure that no body was awake and we started to set the gifts out. We never even noticed the camera on!
He caught us! We finished putting them out and went to bed.
The battery was dead the on Christmas (which we didn't think anything of again,we had another camera to use), so Seth charged it up.
On the morning of the 26th, Seth came up laughing to show us that he caught us on his video putting out the gifts! He was feeling quite pleased with himself about how he completely fooled us.
Spencer said he couldn't wait to show all his friends that it is not Santa, but the parents that put them out.
We all laughed and are still laughing about the whole experience. He did what my little brother and I dreamed of doing all growing up (but we didn't have our own camera or video camera at all). We made plans to find the gifts before hand, and plans to catch our mom and dad putting out the gifts. We never stayed awake though.
What a way sneaky kid!
So that is what happens when you give a boy a camera, he starts to find ways to put the camera to use for his own pleasure!
I wanted to post the video that he did, but it is an hour long and mostly darkness until we are there for like 8 minutes.

We are having another child!
We are all really excited that we have finally after waiting for over 3 and a half years, have been matched to a cute 1 year old girl from China!
We were matched with her on December 1st, and that is her birthday too!
We cannot share her name or post a picture until we hear back from the Chinese government, but we do have pictures and know about her.
We are not sure when we are going to be able to pick her up, it will be between January 2011 and April 2011 most likely. Hopefully sooner than later!
We will post a picture when we are able to!
